Well, the first ever designer who was actually not merely a dressmaker was Charles Frederick Worth (1826–1895) where he set up his maison couture fashion house in Paris. And did you know that the term couturier was first created in order to describe him, since he was able to dictate to his customers what they should wear, instead of following what the dressmakers had done.
